Shawn Mathews is a 21-year-old multi-talented musician from Pennsylvania who can create addictive cross-genre music that feels just like a summer day.
He first emerged in 2019 with “Bad Habit” and “Emotional,” later signing with his college’s label, VALE, in 2020, for the release of his debut EP, Blue. Towards the end of 2020, Mathews released two singles, “Wanna Be” and “Next To Me”.
At the beginning of 2021, Mathews released his first single of the year, “Sunshine.” And now it’s time for “Honest”, which is easily one of his best tracks yet.
“Honest” has the perfect mix for a summerish anthem. The groovy production, the harmonies, the indie-pop sound and a whole warm atmosphere that radiates joy. Such an earworm track that will be slowly stuck in my mind for ages.
Sharing on the single, Shawn states: “One big part of my life this last year has been my relationship with my girlfriend. Our relationship was great pre-pandemic but once the pandemic hit I feel like it allowed for her and I to have more time for one another and in turn just strengthening our relationship. This song basically just expresses all these things I feel and have felt for her throughout our relationship. You would think that spending so much time with a person would make you sick of them, but in my case I feel like the pandemic has brought us closer together and I’m super grateful for that.”
